2nd Amendment
Defending Your Right to Bear Arms
As your Representative in Congress I have sworn an
oath to support and defend the Constitution, and that
is exactly what I've been doing for the last 35 years.
As Americans, our forefathers fought, and died, for
our right to protect ourselves, to protect our families,
and to protect our homes. In Congress, I have been actively
defending the rights of gun owners everywhere, working
towards improving the clarity and enforcement of our
laws and protecting our rights as Americans. This has
been my policy and my passion and I will continue to
defend our Constitutional rights to which we are entitled.
I am a proud Board Member of the NRA and believe that
their commitment to youth programs like 4-H and the
Boy Scouts of America, firearms education and hunter
education courses are invaluable to this country.
I believe in producing results instead of promises.
Here are just a few of the things which I have been
working on as your Representative in Congress.
Bills Passed by the House and
Voted For
H.R. 2640 - NICS Improvement Amendments Act
This bill clarifies and improves the enforcement of
current gun laws without adding any additional restrictions
on who can own a firearm. It also provides a means for
individuals who had been restricted for health reasons
to clear their name from the NICS. Finally, it prohibits
the charging of federal fees for NICS background checks,
keeping a few extra dollars in your pockets.
Bills Cosponsored
H.R. 861 - The Right to Carry Act
This bill provides a logical solution to a problem that
is faced by gun owners nationwide. It allows any individual
who possesses a lawful concealed firearm carrying permit,
issued by a state, to carry a concealed firearm in any
other state. This bill promotes a system similar to that
used by drivers for their licenses and would take some
of the legal guesswork out for our fellow citizens who
wish to exercise their rights.
H.R. 1399 - District of Columbia Personal Protection
Act
This bill will restore the Constitutionally-guaranteed
Second Amendment rights to the residents of the District
of Columbia. The citizens of this region have been left
without a means to defend themselves and frankly it's
un-American, un-ethical, and now under review by those
of us who have sworn to protect those very liberties
which make our Nation great.
