A Statement From Alaska Congressman Don Young

Fort Yukon, AK - The following is a statement from Alaska Congressman Don Young this afternoon regarding the status of the primary election. Young and his wife Lu are at their residence in Fort Yukon.

"While I am pleased to be slightly ahead at this point I know that this will likely be a long process that won't be resolved until sometime in September.

"I anticipate that the results will remain extremely close and an automatic recount will be requested by whichever candidate is trailing after the September 5th tabulation.

"Former Lt. Gov. Stephen McAlpine has met with my campaign staff and outlined in detail the process under which the Division of Elections will operate. He is extremely knowledgeable about the Alaska election process and offered valuable insight into the upcoming procedures.

"Former Lt. Gov. McAlpine has the highest regard for Gail Fenumiai, the director of the Division of Elections, and her staff. I share his sentiments."
